About Me.

My name is Shé Shé Yancy, and I paint rocks, hence my artist’s name ROCKSY.  Since a child I have had a love affair with rocks, collecting them with my father.  Later, through my travels around the world, a rock always seemed to follow me home.  Now I add to their beauty with vibrant colors and mediums to dance in the light.I am a retired black woman, born in Los Angeles, CA., raised and live in Altadena, CA.   I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Business degree with emphasis in Human Resources Management.   Before retirement, I worked as a Human Resources professional of 30 plus years. My rebirth was in 2015 when I was blessed with a second chance in life as a liver transplant recipient.  After my recovery I was compelled to live life without borders and I was inspired to share the beauty that was all around me.  I have been creating and painting rocks since 2018. My audience is any and everyone who loves nature, color, fighting for causes, life, and beauty. As an artist, I work hard to create dazzling painted rocks that speak both to me and to others about the beauty that exists in the world. My favorite medium is the Black Mexican River Rock which have a smooth surface to paint on.  It’s the individual “rock” that tells me what to paint on it.  The tools I currently use are acrylic and oil paints by DecoArt Americana, FolkArt, Gesso, dotting tools, dabbers, glitter, metallics, alcohol ink, art foil, chrome powder, water color, pouring paint, and Resin. My artwork consists of radiant colors, black and whites, as well the natural rock that exposes its natural beauty.  I enjoy painting nature, animals, quotes, contemporary art, inspirational pieces,  symbols, including faith word rocks, mandalas, animal memorials and the gamut. Some Art Shows I have participated in:

  • The Canoga Art Show along with approximately 180 other artists, Canoga.

  • Rhythms of the Village Annual Octoberfest, Altadena, CA.

  • The Winter Wonderland Annual Arts & Crafts Event in City of Lavern.

  • My Tribe Rise Arts & Crafts Events, Altadena, Ca.

  • The 1st Saturday of the month I have a Pop-Up in Altadena at 3011 Lincoln Ave. featuring other artists.

  • AlTAarts Collective

What makes my art unique is my interpretation of what I paint and how it makes me feel once I complete it. I do it because I love creating and I hope others love it too.Influences that have made an impression on me and have manifested itself in my work is the gift of life and sight, mother nature and the capacity to have an effect on someone with my creations.I draw my inspiration from collecting rocks as a child seeing the beauty of its natural form and their various shapes.  Today I draw my new inspirations from watching other rock artists paint, like Rachel Rocks of Canada, in particular. As a new artist, I will continually educate myself of the changes in my area of work, continue to learn various mediums to use while painting, and focusing on improving my craft. My wish is for my art to inspire and move the viewer, while turning energy into something beautiful.  I want to use that energy to always fuel my creativity in making rock art that resonates with others~
